Pure Mathematics Colloquium

Gareth Jones, Henrik Suess and I hosted a Pure Mathematics Colloquium in the University of Manchester School of Mathematics on Wednesday the 20th of May 2015. The meeting was funded by MIMS and the LMS and involved three talks from invited speakers:

Chris Hughes from the University of York, working on random matrix theory and number theory.

John Mackay from the University of Bristol, working on conformal geometry and geometric group theory.

Colva Roney-Dougal from the University of St Andrews, working on finite group theory.

The talks took place in Frank Adams rooms 1 and 2 and the schedule was as follows:

3.00pm - 4.00pm: Chris Hughes. How Big is the Riemann Zeta Function? Abstract

4.00pm - 4.15pm: Mini-break.

4.15pm - 5.15pm: John Mackay. Fixed point properties for groups acting on L^p spaces. Abstract
